More than likely you could do with having a better position in the main Search Engines, so how is this achieved?
You need to advertise.
Imagine your website is listed on 3 other websites and your competitor is listed in
12,000 directories, which one would you say is classed as the most important by the search engines? which one will receive the most traffic?
Millions of people use web directories every day. If your competitor is listed and you are not then that is potentially a lost sale every time.
If you do not advertise your website, how do you expect people to find you?
It would be great if every website on the internet linked to your website wouldn't it?
If you have the most fantastic website then it is possible other websites will link to you just because they like your site, however this can take years.
Why not take advantage of sites that actually WANT you to list your business?
So how do directories work?
Well, the search engines list the top websites and if your website doesn't make it into the top 1 or 2 pages then chances are your website will not get seen.
So some wise-spark decided to take all those sites that don't do so well and put them all in a directory which suddenly started to appear above all those previously
better ranked sites.
Picture this: You have a website that sells telephone batteries but it doesn't do so well on the search engines, why not list your telephone battery website on a directory that focuses on telephone accessories and gets 1000's of visitors every day? If you add your website to lots of directories like this what actually happens is that your website achieves more 'power' because of all the links you have gained and will actually raise it's profile in the search engines ABOVE all those directories that you are listed in. (Often you find directories appear above your website if you are not listed in enough)
This all comes under the 'umbrella' of search engine optimisation. People actually make a living out of submitting your website to directories and other websites. Search engine optimisation is generally a 3 phase process;
i) Have good content on your website
ii) Have a well built search engine friendly website (on page SEO)
iii) Have links, lot's of them.
Just to prove the sceptics wrong, I recently moved one of my websites up 6 pages on Google for a very competitive keyword simply by submitting to 30 directories, it was free to do so and took 2 weeks for it to jump up after submitting my site.
Some directories charge a fee for listing and some don't. Often 10 paid listings can outweigh 50 free ones, but it's whatever is within your budget.
If you do nothing then you will stay exactly where you are.
So there you have it. If you submit your website to a whole stack of directories (and we have quite a big list for you!) then your website will have a better chance of ranking well, and remember, we don't make a penny for telling you this. We have nothing for you to buy, we are just supplying you a list of directories for your ease of use. Of course you could always spend hours/days/weeks writing articles and submitting them to special article directories or ask lots of your competitors websites to link to you - then wait weeks for a reply!!

How long is a permanent listing?
10000Directories.com will remain online permanently as a directory reference site. The link to your web directory will be maintained as long as your directory remains online.
Is this just a link farm?
No, far from it. We are providing a service to webmasters and business owners. We
don't insist (or even ask) that you link to us.
What about pagerank?
This is not an exercise in pagerank. If it's pagerank that you are after then try submitting your website to some of the directories listed on the site.
It is about bringing website owners to your directories so they can list
their sites and buy your links. "Bums on seats" is the name of the game.
I want a bigger link, can I buy more than one square?
No, 1 directory = 1 square. You can list as many directories as you own but please do not submit the same directory twice. (see TERMS below)
My directory is already listed free, do I need to pay?
That is entirely up to you. We started with some free listings, as paying customers get added the free listings will get taken off at random therefore the free listing that you have may disappear at any time. Eventually fewer places will be available and the current price is by no means fixed!

We are not responsible for the content of websites that we link to.
If we need to make changes then priority will always be given in descending order to the directories who paid first.
We reserve the rights to take the site down if any maintenance is required.
We reserve the rights to adjust and ammend the
website as we see fit.
If you submit a website that is not a directory your listing will be removed without refund.
If you close your directory or redirect the url your listing will be removed without refund.
If you submit the same directory twice, the second one will be removed without refund.
If you have links to hard core pornography or warez sites in your directory you will be removed without refund.
We reserve the rights to introduce new terms as we go along to keep things running smoothly.
